Life getting in the way…
Well, it’s been over a week since I last posted and today marks two missed Bike Porn Monday’s in a row. Unfortunately I have been overtaken by life in the last week and things have just been too hectic.
I’m currently getting a new business up and running at work and we’re about a week off going live, plus there’s been lots else going on at work.
There was a huge smash on the Sydney Harbour bridge this morning involving a number of cars and a garbage truck. Traffic came to a shuddering halt - as I found out when I got to work. The joys of commuting by bike - I was pretty much oblivious to the traffic problems and got to work peacefully and easily.
Last week was my daughters, wifes and sisters birthdays plus my wedding anniversary (9 years!!) so life has been busy on a personal front as well. If you’ve read my wife’s post from about a week ago, you’ll be happy to know that I did end up getting her the Electra Red Betty - I’ll get her to write up a review of this larger than life and oh so beautiful cruiser.
So, unfortunately for the moment a mix of personal life and work life have got in the way of the joy of cycling (maybe I should write a picture book). I’m off to Brisbane tomorrow and Melbourne Wednesday for work which means less kms on the bike this week. Probably not too bad a thing - off to Mogo on Friday for the Angry Doctor - the best enduro mountain bike race I’ve done. Can’t wait to hit the single track. I’m likely to be completely buggered by the end of the race as I’m under-prepared, but will be fun nonetheless. I could do with a week off work at the moment, but three days will be nice. Will also be nice to get out of Sydney.
Caught a bit of the UCI Junior Worlds from Cape Town telecast on Sunday morning - man some of those young guys and girls are amazingly good cyclists. Good to see a showing from some of the young guns that I race with (they race in a different division to me) at the Race All Winter track meets. Some great talent. If you’re into carnage, grab a reel of the footage and check out the pile ups in the girls track races.
I’ve got about 10 unfinished articles in my drafts folder - I’ll try and complete some of these over the coming week; perhaps I can use some of the flying time on the plane!

GJ,
I know all about that smash on the bridge, I spent 2.5 hrs in the car this am trying to get to Maroubra from the north shore and was so late had to get a colleague to do my list so it all came to nothing. I thought I saw a cyclist that looked like you on the Gore hill bike path about 740, looked like your style.
I really dislike commuting by car unless every other bastard is home in bed or has gone away somewhere.
Tomorrow is the first commute on the avanti frame you gave me, SS and feels quite light. Still 67″ gear so will see how it goes.

Sorry to hear you were in the car - was a nice day for a ride, except for another flat tyre. Got to replace the front tyre on the Azzurri, it’s shot and keeps puncturing… Seems at the moment, however, that Probikekit doesn’t have much stock - I heard a rumour that they’ve had their supply chain cut by conti…
About 740 - may have been a little early, I think I was a little later… I’m pretty recognisable from the back - not many white Chrome messenger bags going around in Sydney…
Looking forward to the weekend - looks like I’ve made a breakthrough today for the new line of business I’m launching next week, so am still good for Friday off…
